Red Marsh School

Bambers Construction is proud to have recently delivered a package of improvement works at Red Marsh School, designed to enhance accessibility, safety, and comfort for both students and staff.

Project Scope & Objectives

The school identified a need to improve the safety of its transport drop-off arrangements and to modernise parts of the building fabric. Our team was engaged to deliver a scheme that would not only resolve these issues but also provide long-lasting benefits through durable, energy-efficient upgrades.

In planning and delivery, special consideration was given to minimising disruption to the school community. Works were phased around school holidays wherever possible, and clear access to the school was maintained at all times.

Key Works Delivered

  1. Car Park Extension & Turning Circle
  • Full excavation and preparation of the site, including management of a complex dig area where a significant number of existing buried live services were discovered. A detailed risk assessment process was followed to ensure nothing was disturbed and all works could proceed safely.
  • Creation of a dedicated turning circle for the school bus, reducing congestion and improving safety for children arriving and leaving school.
  • Resurfacing of the extended car park with high-quality tarmacadam and installation of new, high-visibility road markings to clearly designate pedestrian and vehicle routes.
  • Works were segregated to guarantee safe and uninterrupted access to North Fold School throughout the project.
  • The end result is a safer, more efficient flow of traffic and improved accessibility for all visitors to the site.
  1. Window & Door Replacement Programme
  • Removal of ageing timber windows which had become inefficient and difficult to maintain.
  • Due to budget constraints, aluminium windows originally specified were replaced with energy-efficient UPVC alternatives, reducing heat loss and ongoing maintenance requirements.
  • Fitting of robust aluminium entrance doors to provide enhanced security, durability, and ease of use for staff and pupils.
  • The upgrade not only modernises the school’s appearance but also creates a more comfortable learning environment.
  1. Health & Safety Measures
  • Asbestos was discovered in the staff room during works. A licensed specialist contractor was engaged immediately to ensure safe removal and full compliance with statutory regulations.
  • All teachers and staff entering site were formally inducted, ensuring the site remained secure and that all personnel were accounted for at all times.
  1. Community & Training Engagement
  • A T-Level student was invited for a one-day site visit, providing valuable hands-on experience and supporting the development of future construction professionals.

Outcomes & Benefits

  • Improved Safety: The turning circle ensures school buses can manoeuvre without risk to pedestrians, supporting safer daily operations.
  • Energy Efficiency: New glazing and doors contribute to reduced heating costs and a lower carbon footprint.
  • Enhanced Compliance: The safe removal of asbestos and strict management of live services minimised risks to staff, pupils, and contractors.
  • A Better Environment: Staff and students benefit from warmer classrooms in winter, better ventilation in summer, and improved natural light.
  • Long-Term Value: Durable materials have been chosen to minimise future maintenance costs and disruption.

Community Impact

This project has created a more secure, accessible, and welcoming environment, directly benefiting the Red Marsh School community and supporting the wellbeing of students with additional needs. It also highlights Bambers Construction’s commitment to:
