4,6, 8 Edward Street - Blackpool
Intro
Bambers were appointed to deliver a full programme of internal and façade improvement works at Units 4, 6, and 8 Edward Street a prominent mixed use building located in the heart of the town centre.
This project formed part of Blackpool’s Quality Corridors initiative, a series of regeneration schemes aimed at improving the quality, energy performance, and visual appeal of key commercial areas.
Duration
April 2022 – December 2023
The works were delivered in two phases, with a gap between the external and internal elements while additional funding was secured.
This phased delivery approach allowed the team to coordinate seamlessly with the local authority, ensuring the project remained on track while aligning with broader regeneration timelines.
Key Improvements Included
- Comprehensive internal refurbishment of commercial and retail spaces
- Safe removal and replacement of large glazed shopfronts
- Installation of air source heat pumps to achieve modern energy efficiency standards and full decarbonisation
- Mechanical and electrical service upgrades
- Refurbishment of ceilings, flooring, and internal walls
- Decorative finishes and modernisation to improve accessibility and visual appeal
Challenges
As the site was located in a busy town centre environment, public safety and access management were top priorities.
The replacement of large glass panels in an active pedestrian zone required close coordination, precise lifting operations, and clear communication with nearby retailers.
The limited working hours to accommodate trading periods made the project time sensitive, demanding effective planning and rapid delivery to minimise disruption.
Solutions
Bambers developed a detailed phasing and logistics plan to maintain safe pedestrian flow and continuous access to businesses.
Working closely with council officers, utility providers, and local stakeholders, the team scheduled works around key trading hours to reduce impact.
Specialist glazing equipment and temporary protective barriers ensured full compliance with health and safety standards.
Bambers also partnered with a local subcontractor to design and install the new air source heat pump systems, enhancing the building’s sustainability and supporting Blackpool’s wider decarbonisation goals.
Value Added for the Community and Client
The project has delivered a clear uplift to the Edward Street area, significantly improving the look and feel of this key retail corridor.
The combination of aesthetic upgrades and low-carbon technology has transformed the environment into a more welcoming, efficient, and sustainable commercial space.
Positive feedback from local businesses and the public reflects the project’s success in contributing to Blackpool’s town centre regeneration strategy.
Value Added as a Company
This project showcases Bambers’ ability to deliver technically challenging works in live, high footfall environments while maintaining a strong focus on sustainability, safety, and community value.
As part of the wider Quality Corridors programme, the Edward Street works contributed to Bambers receiving the 2022 Blackpool Civic Trust Award recognising excellence in urban regeneration and community enhancement.
